Mr. DuMont Gone

Hi All,

This post is to let you know I will be gone for the next two days.  The students will have time to work on their ELA "The Outsiders" Novel study and their Visual Art "Tuff" collages for a large portion of the next two days.  Please make sure your children have their materials at school for both of these assignments.  The grade 8 math students will be having a test on Integers on Friday.  We are having an assembly celebrating Education Week and Jack MacKenzie's Honourary Doctorate of Laws from the U of R.  If you are available and interested please come join the school in this celebration Friday, October 23rd at 2:30 in the afternoon.

Have a great weekend!

Tell Them From Me Survey

Dear Parent/Guardian,

As part of our focus on school effectiveness, Jack MacKenzie School will be participating in an online school survey for students – Tell Them From Me (TTFM).

TTFM is an online survey that allows students to give their feedback and share their voice on their school environment, experiences at school, and any school improvement programs.  During the period from October 15th to November 17th, all students in grades 4-8 will be given the opportunity and time to participate in this survey during regular school hours. They are encouraged to complete the survey, but may choose not to as it is completely voluntary. Students who agree to complete the survey will be given a random username and password to access and complete the survey. Students’ names cannot be linked to their responses which allows it to be completely anonymous. Results will show all student scores combined together – it is not possible to single out individual students in the results.

The student survey will be completed electronically and will require approximately 35-40 minutes to complete. The student survey measures include such topics as emotional and social well-being, physical health, and behaviours and attitudes linked to student success. The survey also allows students to give their thoughts and feedback in open-ended question responses.

TTFM was created by The Learning Bar, based on the work by Dr. J. Douglas Willms. Dr. Willms is widely known nationally and internationally for his work on educational monitoring systems, including the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development. Since 2004, Tell Them From Me has quickly grown to become Canada’s largest national school survey.

We Day @ Campbell Collegiate

The Campbell Collegiate Me To We Team Presents:

 MINI WE DAY
REGINA PUBLIC
Wednesday, October 14
1 PM & 2 PM

All Grade 7 – 8 Students are invited to attend !

When: Wednesday, October 14 @ 1 PM and 2 PM
Where: Currie Auditorium at Campbell Collegiate.
Admission: Free!

WHAT IS MINI WE DAY REGINA PUBLIC?
Mini We Day Regina Public will introduce your grade 7/8 to the Me To We Philosophy inspired by Free the Children, an international organization founded by Canadian Craig Kielburger when he was 12 years old! Free the Children aims to empower youth around the world to achieve their fullest potential as agents of change. At Mini We Day Regina, we hope to inspire the next generation of world-changers to realize the potential we each have, through our actions and decisions, to make our school, local and global communities a better place, not only for ourselves, but for the seven billion other humans that we share our planet with.

Our Mini We Day Regina will provide more information on Free the Children and Me to We in a fun, interactive setting, and will also feature musical guests, and inspirational videos.

WHO IS THE CAMPBELL ME TO WE TEAM?
The Campbell Collegiate Me to We Team is a group of over one hundred students that are passionate about changing the world. The team works in conjunction with Free the Children, an international charity that aims to empower youth around the world to achieve their fullest potentials as agents of change. Through the We Act program, the Campbell Me to We Team chooses at least one global initiative and one local initiative each school year to work towards.

As a local initiative last year, we supported Campbell’s annual Adopt-a-Family fundraiser, supporting over three hundred deserving families with Christmas gifts and Christmas dinners to brighten their holiday seasons. In March, we kicked off our second global initiative, in support of Free the Children’s Clean Water and Sanitation Pillar in Rural China. The campaign was incredibly successful, and we raised over $12 000 to finance the construction of two clean water systems in Rural China. These systems will provide easy access to clean, safe water, allowing girls to go to school and preventing the spread of water-borne illnesses.

WHY ATTEND MINI WE DAY REGINA?
If your elementary school has already collaborated with the Campbell Me to We Team, this is an incredible opportunity to get senior students interested in leadership roles within the Me to We Team & SRC at your school, and for students to learn more about the three Adopt-a-Village pillars that we will be voting between for our global initiative in the spring.

Has my permission to attend Mini We Day at Campbell Collegiate on Wednesday, October 14, 2015.
